You didn't specify if you were playing or GMing but since you bought a module let's assume you're GMing. At least thats my opinion!Īgree with the above. This is a very well supported and actively developed platform and well worth the cost.
#FANTASY GROUNDS ULTIMATE EDITION VS STANDARD UPGRADE#
The Unity one is a massive upgrade and its the first time that an upgrade charge will have been levied. You would just get the upgrade as part of your subscription.įG receives 4-6 version upgrades every year. On a subscription there would be no upgrade charge. Paying more will help the devs keep on developing. The cost will (likely) start at $5 to upgrade your Standard and $15 for your Ultimate but it is likely to be a Pay What you Want with those being the minimums.
Note there will be *some* upgrade cost when Unity is released (sometime next year). This license is not transferable though so if you swap GM roles around stick with Standards (or everyone can get Ultimate!).īuying outright is definitely cheaper over time. If you have a bunch of tight players or you like to introduce new players then an Ultimate is good - as your players will play for free. This way others can take turns GMing too. When you get familiar with the basic Fantasy Grounds product the next step is to check out some of the Extensions (Plug-Ins) for FG, such as the DOE: Sound, DOE: Locations, DOE: Weather and DOE: Organisations Extensions (to name a but a few).Īnd keep on asking questions - we're a pretty friendly lot here, and we love answering questions.Īs a player you will only ever need the Standard/Full license.Īs a GM you can totally use the same license and all your players will need their own license (ideal scenario). Once you've gone through the CoreRPG Videos you can then go on to Videos about your chosen RPG.
#FANTASY GROUNDS ULTIMATE EDITION VS STANDARD HOW TO#
Start with the ones on the CoreRPG, because the CoreRPG forms the foundation of just about all the RPGs we play with Fantasy Grounds - so by learning how to use FG with the CoreRPG you'll learn about 80% of what you'll need to know to play any RPG with Fantasy Grounds. Damn's are good, as are Xorn's, and people seem to like mine as well (mine are also available from the links in my sig, below). Let me also recommend this: If you haven't done so already, let me encourage you to take a look at some of the great Tutorial Videos available on the Fantasy Grounds Wiki (and on YouTube).

The GM buys these and they get shared to the players during the session. The only different between the Ultimate and the Full (or as you call it "Standard") is that with the Ultimate your players only need the Demo version (or better) to connect to you as the GM and play, while with the Full your players will also need a Full version (or better). But the licensed books are really good and you'll probably want some to save time.
You usually don't NEED to buy licensed books, you can hand-enter data as you would on Astral or Foundry. You buy the Player's Handbook or whatever other licensed books you want separately from FG. But the GM who owns that license can cover all their groups now even if new demo players come in.Īnd of course, demo/standard/ultimate has nothing to do with rule/book/adventure content. Of course, the Ultimate license is still OWNED by an individual, so if a player pitches in, buys their GM an Ultimate license, then changes groups, they have no license of their own, the GM keeps the Ultimate license and the player has nothing.
So if your GM has Ultimate, you can just use Demo forever and connect to them whenever you want to play.
#FANTASY GROUNDS ULTIMATE EDITION VS STANDARD INSTALL#
If the GM has Ultimate, no one else needs a license at all (though if they have their own license for other reasons that's fine too, so Demo or better is kosher).Ī Demo install is BOTH a way to kick the tires on FG before buying it (a capability which is feature limited and not time-limited), and is ALSO a way to connect to an Ultimate GM. If the GM has standard, all the players need their own license (standard or better) as well.Īn Ultimate license covers the GROUP. Others have already answered, but I'll try to answer again in a way that might be more intuitive:Ī Standard license covers YOU.
